This book is a unique collaborative effort between scientists in the West Indies, Argentina, Spain and the United States to create an authoritative book on terrestrial mammals, including the taxonomy, systematics and ecology of West Indian mammals, especially capromyid rodents. The contributions of 32 authors are grouped into seven chapters: Historical and Collection Studies, Recent Mammals, Conservation, Fossil Mammals, Ethnozoological and Parasitology Studies. It covers studies on traditional and molecular systematics, anatomy, collections, conservation, ecology, ethnozoology, impact of introduced species on endemic fauna, morphology, paleontology, parasitology, research history, species distribution and taxonomy. It also provides a general idea of the current status of mammalogy in the insular Caribbean.
